HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support

Course Description

Previously known as Level 1, this 6 hour course provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to manage a life-threatening emergency using basic first aid skills and includes CPR. This course does not meet the minimum requirement as a first aid provider in the workplace.

Course Content

How to respond to an emergency situation; recognising the non-breathing unconscious person; performing CPR on an adult and infant manikin; the use of an AED; bleeding & wounds; allergies, bites & stings; asthma and some medical emergencies; communicating details of the incident.

Assessment Tasks

Demonstrate competent CPR on an adult and infant manikin; use of an AED; participate in scenarios; provide written and verbal communication of the scenario incident; complete 14 multiple choice questions. No pre-course is required for this course.

Certificate

Upon successful completion in the practical component, scenario and written assessment tasks candidates will be issued a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment. This qualification is recognized in both PNG and Australia.
